Prime Thanks God for the Rafters
6Jul09

The Newcastle Ratings, week ending  04 July 2009.

Packed To The Rafters that is.

Prime is likely thanking its lucky stars that one of its best rating shows is back on the air to help increase its numbers. Rewind to last week and Prime was struggling with an average 16. 7 viewing percentage, this week Rafters (with a little help from the biggest ever lotteries draw) has helped boost its numbers back up to 20.8. SC Ten still sitting comfortably and enjoying second position, with 3 of its programs in the Top Ten programs for last week.

Can Prime catch up?

So how does one explain Prime’s train-wreck ratings in Newcastle? Because they are not that bad elsewhere as far as I know

Andrew
Check back a few posts for my “viewer inversion theory” to answer that question.

I don’t think Prime are thanking God I think it’s more like thanking their engineering department! We and a large number of people I have spoken too have real problems with Prime when you tune them in with a HD set top box, it’s called signal lock. Set top boxes get jammed onto their signal, you can’t change channel unless you unplug the box and re plug it into your set. It’s not one brand of set top box but dozens of brands and not cheapies. When called the Newcastle Prime office response to all callers is they’ve never heard about this happening before !! call their engineers in Canberra. Needless to say no matter what time of day Primes head office engineers are called there’s never anyone available they’ll call you back, which they don’t do. Having worked in the industry I am aware of the technique they are using and I and a number of others have now made a submission to the relevent authoritys re the practice. Oh did we mention, the problem usually only occures during ratings periods !!!!
