Longest serving rep resigns from 2HD

Newsflash: 2HD’s longest serving sales representative, Peter Field has resigned. Ironically, his last day will be on 4 July, Independence Day in USA. Field has been working at 2HD since 1982.

He is the second long serving member of the sales team to leave the station in the last two months. Station Sales Manager Kathy Coleman went on stress leave in late February after reported conflicts with owner Bill Caralis over sudden changes to sales commission structures. Coleman is apparently still on leave but must be worried about any prospect of return to the station after Guy Ashford was hired in her position. Coleman has also been working for 2HD since the eighties.

Last September the station’s longest serving employee, Roger Clements, was forced to leave by Caralis under a "redundancy package". Roger was the Operations Manager at the time. Guy Ashford’s title is Sales and Operations Manager.

Can you blame the fella for leaving? He can’t have much left to sell at 2HD/NEWFM. The NEW audience is almost non-existent while 2HD’s is so 65+ now that funeral homes would be the best prospects for advertising sales.

Bottom line – where’s the Federal member on this? Has anyone bothered to alert Sharon Grierson that there’s an IR and communications crisis in her own backyard? Has there been an en masse representation with the documented evidence of unfair, constructive and illegal dismissals? Has anyone phoned and asked her what her views are on the impact of a disappearing media presence and its major regional, economic and social implications? Where is NBN, the Newcastle Herald and the other over-the-fence freebies? All on the Caralis payroll too? If no one can see the story – I’ll do it!

Cathy the listeners of NEWFM did approach their local representatives en masse but it wasn’t very effective. She couldn’t understand why 7 deaf people and a feral cat were complaining about someone called Bull Careless.
