Struggle Street for Prime
20Jul09

The Newcastle Ratings, week ending July 18.

Prime seems to have hit an all time low in the stations ratings for last week. Rating only in the 15% bracket, with constant leader NBN up around the 30′s!
NBN had a good viewing week consisting of Origin and the Evening News, bringing its ratings up quite high. SC Ten is thriving well off its number one program ‘MasterChef’. Prime’s ‘Pack To The Rafters’, weekly makes the top watched programs, but doesn’t seem to be doing enough to push up the channel’s overall ratings.

Very few Prime numbers in Newcastle TV ratings
13Jul09

The Newcastle Ratings, ending 11 July

This weeks ratings depict a competition mainly between SC Ten and NBN. Apart from Primes favourite family ‘The Rafters’, it is just an NBN and SC Ten Only top ten list. Even ‘Rove’ made the most watched list? What’s going on Prime? Where have all the viewers gone? Even the ratings themselves are suffering in numbers, averaging in the early 20′s.

Prime Thanks God for the Rafters
6Jul09

The Newcastle Ratings, week ending  04 July 2009.

Packed To The Rafters that is.

Prime is likely thanking its lucky stars that one of its best rating shows is back on the air to help increase its numbers. Rewind to last week and Prime was struggling with an average 16. 7 viewing percentage, this week Rafters (with a little help from the biggest ever lotteries draw) has helped boost its numbers back up to 20.8. SC Ten still sitting comfortably and enjoying second position, with 3 of its programs in the Top Ten programs for last week.

Can Prime catch up?

Find my ratings. Prime sinks further.

The Newcastle Ratings Week Ending 28 June 09

Prime must be very anxious for the new seasons of Dancing with the Stars and Packed to the Rafters to launch next week after suffering their biggest ratings fall in recent times. NBN romped home as usual on the back of Origin football and News, while Southern Cross Ten continued to enjoy support for Talking About Your Generation, NCIS and Masterchef.

But Prime really sank this week with ABC soundly beating them into 3rd place. Its the lowest weekly ratings for Prime in years and has allowed SC TEN to overtake them in the year-to-date figures.

The second half of the ratings year is going to turn into quiet the battle for second place in Newcastle.

Viewer inversion theory
23Jun09

Newcastle’s television viewing habits have always been a little different to the national average. Since aggregation in the early ’90s NBN has maintained its local dominance in defiance of national trends, and we’ve just come to accept that.

But lately the commercial TV viewing habits in Newcastle have been more puzzling than ever. In fact, they are inverse to the national viewing figures. Look at last weeks ratings for example:

National                                                    Newcastle

Seven 27.0                                              NBN (Nine affiliate) 31.5

Ten 25.8                                                  SC TEN (TEN affiliate)  22.3

Nine 25.2                                                Prime (Seven affiliate) 19.9

Why is the affiliate for the nation’s top rating station struggling to 3rd place in Newcastle?

30′s, 20′s 10′s…
22Jun09

This weeks Newcastle Television ratings have worked out with the 3 main players scoring in the 30s, 20s, & teens respectively. In the 30′s comes 1st place contender NBN. Running in 2nd place in the 20′s is SC Ten and 3rd but not least is Prime with a score in the teens. It seems, as this has occurred now over the last few weeks, that these place gettings are here to stay.

The Newcastle Ratings Week 24, week ending 13 June 2009

A year ago to this date, the ratings figures where some what completely different. SC Ten was struggling to make a decent 17, 18%. NBN was dominant, nearly reaching the 40′s and Prime, well, was always in a definite second place to NBN that was never challenged. Fast forward today and the figures have gone haywire. NBN still a clear winner, but not pulling the viewing numbers it used to. SC Ten has jumped on board the ‘Why be Third when you can be Second Train’ and Prime is slowly sinking in ratings before our eyes, although it did rise 1% from last week? Interesting…

SC TEN has done it again…
9Jun09

The Newcastle Ratings Week 23, week ending 06 June 2009

Last week the ratings figures took a dramatic change, with SC TEN jumping over Prime for a strong second. Again this week SC TEN has done it again, beating Prime for the second place position on the stations ratings. NBN and SC TEN seem to be going up in figures, however, Prime seems to be going down? As for the most watched programs, SC Ten has managed to get two of its programs up on the NBN dominated board.

Just who you calling Old and Daggy?!

The Newcastle Ratings Week 22, week ending 30 May 2009

With the Newcastle Ratings this week, some interesting shows pop up. Apart from our weekly NBN News favourite, its changed focus from Underbelly, shows such as Find My Family or the common contender The Zoo, to mixing it up with the ABC programs. Masterchef on SC TEN is still managing to stay in the top ten each week it airs and also an old favourite, Getaway, has crept back into the chart. Maybe that’s got something to do with people dreaming of a holiday, that at the present time is unachievable?

The Stations Ratings are also quite fascinating, well the battle for second, third and fourth place, between Prime, SC Ten and ABC is anyway. SC Ten has finished a strong 2nd while ABC actually pipped Prime. I can’t remember the last time that happened.

Hmmm, Should Prime be worried?

Welcome SC TEN
25May09

The Newcastle Ratings Week 21, week ending 23 May 2009

Prime looks to be having a rest for now, as our usual third place channel SC TEN has defied all odds last week to leap over Prime to steal second place on the stations ratings. There’s absolutely no catching NBN on a high 32.7, but as you can see in the ratings SC TEN has played a swap in the numbers from a fortnight ago, where it was struggling on 17.9 and Prime being a high 21.7  compared to now week 21′s rating numbers.

As for the most watched programs, the NBN News seems to still be quite the favourite. Spicks and Specks is back on the chart helping ABC and maybe its from Masterchef Australia that helped bring SC TEN up dramatically with the ratings?

All in all quite interesting, read on to see the results:
