Hey Hey its not good enough…
6Oct09

The Newcastle TV Ratings, week ending October 03

Note: These ratings results are compiled using the combined resources of SC TEN, NBN & Prime’s weekly AGB Nielsen Media Research reports.

Prime’s Packed To The Rafters took out first place in the Most Watched Programs for last week. As the footy finals were being played on the Sunday (thus being included in next weeks ratings), Prime’s favourite family snuck past to take the lead. Although it wasn’t enough to beat NBN, this did help Prime increase it’s rating numbers to jump up into 22.7%, rather than in the teens it has been sitting in lately.

As happy as many folk are that Hey Hey Reunion is back on, making 3rd place on the most watched list, it didn’t help NBN “that much” to increase it’s weekly viewing numbers. NBN’s ratings dropped 4.3% compared to the previous footy dominated week.

Once again, just by a fraction, ABC took out 3rd place for last weeks ratings beating SC TEN by 0.3%. Ten must be concerned that Celebrity Masterchef and Australian Idol aren’t doing the business for them.

All Eyes on the Footy

The Newcastle TV Ratings, week ending September 26

Note: These ratings results are compiled using the combined resources of SC TEN, NBN & Prime’s weekly AGB Nielsen Media Research reports.

It is no surprise that last week all eyes were on the Rugby League semi’s and AFL finals. The AFL grand final helped SC TEN into the Top Ten Watched Programs for the week, however, not enough to give them higher ratings for the week. Our televisions were generally on NBN News and Football.

Routine Routine Ratings – Newcastle TV
21Sep09

The Newcastle TV Ratings, week ending September 19

Note: These ratings results are compiled using the combined resources of SC TEN, NBN & Prime’s weekly AGB Nielsen Media Research reports.

Newcastle seems to go through trends. When something is on that we like, we go all out and watch it, just it! We are interested right now in what’s on in the News (NBN being that), every day of the week and Footy Finals (once again NBN). We like to watch renovations and also day dream of getaways (once again all NBN).

We do occasionally like watching animals being saved and funny disfunctional families (Prime), but that seems to be it. No one else seems to want to cross over into other programs or featured sports on TV just at this stage. We like a routine and it seems so does the ratings, with NBN once again taking out the winning spot with an average of 37.1% viewing audience. This week though Prime managed to defeat ABC.

NBN feasts on footy finals
14Sep09

The Newcastle TV Ratings, week ending September 12

Note: These ratings results are compiled using the combined resources of SC TEN, NBN & Prime’s weekly AGB Nielsen Media Research reports.

You can easily tell when you look at the ratings this week that it’s getting into footy final season. NBN has extremely high ratings compared to the others, averaging around 35.5%, then SC TEN failing to make a top conversion this week with a 15.6% audience share. Only Primes ‘Packed to the Rafters’ and ABC’s ‘George Gently’ made the Top Ten Most Watched Programs this week, other than that it was completely dominated by NBN.

ABC1 should be happy with yet another strong showing this week, once again putting the boot into Prime and SC TEN to finish second.

1, 2, 3… it’s easy as ABC
7Sep09

The Newcastle Ratings, week ending September 6

Note: These ratings results are compiled using the combined resources of SC TEN, NBN & Prime’s weekly AGB Nielsen Media Research reports.

ABC1 has been the big mover in Newcastle of late, performing very well again last week.

This weeks ratings show some very interesting numbers. Probably because NBN is all over both the most watched programs board and the stations ratings there is not much competition left? Prime literally just scraped through with second place on the ratings this week by 0.1% to beat ABC1, whereas SC Ten was down again finishing 4th.

You are looking at NBN with a 36.2%, Prime 20.3%, ABC 20.2% & SC Ten 16.1%.

Newcastle TV Ratings w/e 22 August
24Aug09

Newcastle Ratings, week ending August 22

Note: These ratings results are compiled using the combined resources of SC TEN, NBN & Prime’s weekly AGB Nielsen Media Research reports.

Overall audience figures were down a bit last week with the lack of any big season finales or breakaway hit shows. SC TEN has drifted back to the pack since the end of Masterchef, but Prime has failed to capitalise on this, finishing behind SC TEN again.

Whilst Seven has already wrapped up ratings victory for 2009, Prime is locked in a ding-dong battle with SC TEN for second place in Newcastle. NBN is unassailable in overall ratings already.

Up and Down..Round and Round Ratings
17Aug09

Newcastle Ratings, week ending August 15

SC TEN has improved by 2.1% in its ratings for 09 compared to last year, but this still was not enough to even come close to 3rd place on the ratings figures this week. Only averaging 17.9%, where as 3rd place receiver ABC is cruising along on 20.3%. Prime, however, was winning last year with a high of 37.4%. This percentage being even higher than current 1st place station NBN for this years figures, with a 31.3% average.

Is it the programs being aired? Glad you asked, as even though SC TEN barely scored in the ratings, 2 of their programs featured in the Top Ten Most Watched Programs.

Confusing? Take a look for yourself…

ABC sneaks into second
10Aug09

The Newcastle Ratings, weekend ending August 08

This weeks ratings tell an interesting tale. Lesson one: How to climb the ratings ladder without doing anything obvious. ABC has done something very interesting lately. While our focus has been on the constant battle between NBN, Prime and SC Ten, there has been a quiet achiever called ABC. Rather than spending a fortune on top ratings shows, or going on an up and down roller coaster ride like the commercial players, the ABC has been constant. Is the lesson consistency rather than highs and lows?

ABC seems to have no real extreme stand outs when it comes to programs, apart from perennial favourite ‘Spicks & Specks’, that each week of late continuously make the top watched programs. They have been consistent with the shows they choose to keep on air and seem to have a solid viewer base. Do we take a lesson from the old children’s story ‘The Hare and the Tortoise?”… Like most channels, all their time, money and effort is spent on promoting up coming shows and if they are a hit, that faith is entirely kept on this program. Do we instead spread the love around….So to speak??

Prime’s ratings not exactly packed to the rafters
3Aug09

The Newcastle Ratings, week ending August 01

Nothing special was happening on television for the Hunter last week and this shows in the Newcastle Ratings. Over the last few months we have been seeing the numbers averaging in the 30′s, especially for NBN and the figures then slowly dwindling in chronological order for each of the other stations.
This weeks ratings show the figures only averaging in the 20′s. NBN just missing out and resulting with a 29.3% win. This is all understandable when looking at the Top Ten programs…..there are no real stand-outs as far as programs go, just day to day television.

The worrying trend, though, is that Prime have run 4th in Newcastle for the third week running. The only new season program on Prime that is firing so far is Packed to the Rafters, while Dancing with the Stars may have lost its appeal.

SC TEN smokes Prime for another week
27Jul09

The Newcastle Ratings, week ending July 25

SC Ten’s highest rating program, ‘Masterchef’ came to its sizzling end, taking out both Top Watched Program 1st & 2nd spots, averaging around the 130,000 viewers. However this wasn’t enough to topple NBN for the week. Meanwhile, Prime has been badly burnt during the Masterchef season and will be hoping that Dancing can revive their flagging fortunes. Getting beaten on a weekly basis by ABC is not a great look.
