50/50 or can I Phone a Real Friend…3Mar09
Newcastle TV ratings week 9, 2009
If you were to only look at the most watched programs in the Hunter for last week, you would make the following judgements: NBN and Prime are head to head at 50% on the leader board. Prime is really catching up. As for the reality of that tale, when you look at the ratings figures, this is a different story, why?
Reality! that’s is exactly right. Newcastle loves its reality shows. Apart from again the leader of the week, Underbelly2 (although technically this is based on true events) and Pack To The Rafters (which is set around the reality of today’s family), the 10 most watched programs of last week and nearly every week, has some how to do with what’s happening in our world today… We still like to watch ourselves..

Loss of localism23Jan09
Commercial radio was once the loudest local voice in media. Here in Newcastle there was a time when radio was the best medium for the latest news, talk and sport, especially when Australia’s second oldest station, 2HD was at its strongest. You could hear everything broadcast locally 24 hours a day.
No longer.
Recent programming changes on 2HD mean that live and local on what was once known as Newcastle’s home of news, talk and sport barely exists.

Newcastle Herald story on NEWFM & 2HD staff departures14Jan09
Following Media Hunter’s post earlier this week on the departures of Richard King and Don Mayo from 2HD & NEWFM, The Herald in Newcastle have run a story today on the station’s changes.
Interestingly, station manager Guy Ashford claims that the axing of King’s drive show was to do with ratings and not cost-cutting. If that’s the case, will they axe Talkin’ Sport if it doesn’t perform within a few surveys? Or does that mean the NEWFM breakfast show is under threat due to its poor ratings performance in the last survey of 2008?

National Ratings Blog 17 Nov 200817Nov08
The hottest names on television last week were Bianca Saez and Dawn French. Saez almost gave Channel Nine a ratings victory, and French showed why the ABC should have fought harder to keep Andrew Denton doing his interview program Enough Rope next year.
Saez is a former sufferer from Tourette syndrome, and renovating her home was the theme of a special edition of Domestic Blitz which attracted 1.7 million mainland capital viewers on Monday night. French is the star of The Vicar of Dibley, and her thoughts on life and weight brought 1.2 million to Denton’s program on Monday night.

Prime – Most ‘Viewed’ Program10Nov08
The Melbourne Cup was both the most talked about and watched program in Newcastle last week. Swapping the average day to day routine, for glamorous hats and the hopeful punt. Prime took first place on the leader board for having the highest amount of Novacastrians watching in dear hope they would score a small fortune, or for some lucky ones a large win! However unlike Bauer, NBN did take the win by more than a nose, leading the ratings game by 3.1 over Prime and a big 6.9 over TEN.
