Back to the future at NEWFM29May08
It seems that NEWFM will being trying to recapture some of the Fatboys magic from earlier in the decade. Half of the original Fatboys team, Steve St John, has re-joined the Sandgate station and is rumoured to be forming an on-air partnership with Don Mayo.
Mayo has worked previously at NEWFM before joining the long list of announcers shown the door by owner Bill Caralis. However all seems to have been forgiven with Mayo about to return to the fold.
It is believed that the new breakfast team of St John and Mayo will launch on 9 June.
Meanwhile noticeable changes have begun to occur to the NEWFM playlist with the music begin to rock more.

St john will lift this once great station & Don is fantastic to have back he will give them a lot of help……..
Well its about time NEW FM went back to what they did best and that’s Rock Newcastle and the Hunter with a good variety of music! I heard thats why KO has been pushing the Newcastle’s widest variety slogan as their own research showed that most people though NEW FM had a better variety than they did.
Finally we might get a decent breakfast program on NEW so there is an alternative to the arrogant Pommy and Tanya and Idiot and Kim on the other stations. Lets face it anything is better than Kate whatever her name was, she was terrible.
Fenderman, I see you are an educated man or is it woman?
Actually I am a woman A.P but if my info is correct that would not be to your taste anyway.
it’s ashame this is happening to new fm as there are some great poeple working there. love listening to Blind Melon personalilty plus – makes radio come alive, hopeful he stays and 2HD team is right up there as well. i hope NEWFM pull it together.

Interesting news if its true. The Fatboys had a good show and helped NEWFM head in the right direction when they were in Newcastle.
As we said, it was rumoured that Don Mayo was joining Steve on air.
Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
